Carburetor
Cleaning & Rebuilds
The fix for a bike that ran fine in October and won’t idle in April. Cleaning, rebuilds and jetting.
Modern fuel does not like sitting still. Leave it in a carburettor over a Chicago winter and it separates, evaporates and leaves varnish behind in passages narrower than a hair. Come spring the bike cranks, coughs, and dies — or idles high, or bogs off the line, or runs on three of four.
Symptoms that point here
- Won’t start after sitting, or starts only on full choke.
- Idles rough, hunts up and down, or dies at a stop.
- Bogs when you crack the throttle but pulls fine up top.
- Fuel smell, or fuel weeping from an overflow.
- Fouled plugs, black or wet.
What we do
- Full strip and clean — bowls, jets, emulsion tubes and every passage cleared properly, not sprayed at.
- Rebuild where gaskets, needles and seats are past it.
- Sync on multi-carb bikes so the cylinders pull together.
- Jetting when the bike has an aftermarket exhaust or intake and was never re-tuned to suit.
In our own words on a jetting job: “Add a little spice to your bike with some jetting and let us tune your carburetors.” If you’ve fitted a pipe and the bike has felt flat ever since, that’s the reason — and it’s fixable. See performance and tuning.
