A bike left outside through a Chicago winter doesn’t just get cold. Salt gets into everything, fuel goes off and gums the carbs, the battery dies flat and sulphates, seals dry out, tyres flat-spot and moisture finds its way into the exhaust and the electrics. Spring then costs more than storage would have.

Why the Basic package is the one most people take
Storage alone solves the salt. It doesn’t solve the two things that actually strand people in April: dead fuel and a dead battery. Basic puts a fresh oil change and a battery tender into the deal, and adds a 27-point inspection so anything found gets fixed in the quiet season instead of the week everyone wants their bike back.
Winter is the right time for everything else too
The bike is parked anyway. This is when paint and powder coating should happen — those jobs take the bike off the road, and in January that costs you nothing.
