Redline technician servicing a motorcycle engine

Oil Change
& Tune-Up

The service interval that decides how long your engine lasts. Fluids, filters, plugs, chain — and a proper look over the rest of the bike while it’s up.

An oil change on a bike is not the fifteen-minute drive-through job it is on a car. Motorcycle engines run hotter, rev higher, and on most bikes the same oil is lubricating the gearbox and the clutch. Old oil in a bike doesn’t just get dirty — it stops shifting properly.

What a service covers

  • Oil and filter to the spec your engine actually wants, not whatever is nearest on the shelf.
  • Spark plugs checked and replaced on interval.
  • Air filter inspected — a choked filter costs you fuel and throttle response.
  • Chain and sprockets cleaned, adjusted and assessed for wear.
  • Brakes, tyres, lights and levels checked while it’s on the stand.

How often?

Follow your manual first. As a working rule most riders here are due once a season, and a Chicago season is short enough that an annual service before spring covers most bikes. Ride hard, ride two-up, or sit in a lot of traffic and you’ll want it sooner.

The one nobody expects

If the bike sat all winter, the oil is only half the story — fuel goes off and gums up the carbs. A spring service on a bike that sat often turns into a carburetor clean. We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at before we start.

An oil change and a 27-point inspection are both bundled into our winter storage packages, which is the cheapest way to get this handled if the bike is parked anyway.

Back to repair for everything else we handle in this part of the shop.
