Most shops that offer powder coating are really offering to arrange powder coating. Your wheels come off, go in a van, sit in a queue at a coater across the city, and come back when they come back. Every handoff adds time, and every handoff is somewhere a part gets scratched or lost.
We do it here. Strip, prep, coat, cure — all of it at 5752 W Grand. In our own words when a customer asked:
“Need your wheels powder coated without going to a separate shop to strip your hardware? We do it all in-house.”
What powder coating actually gets you
It's not paint. Powder is applied dry, electrostatically, then baked on until it flows into a single continuous shell. That shell is thicker and tougher than a wet-sprayed finish, which is why it belongs on the parts that take the worst of a Chicago year — wheels that eat road salt, frames that get kicked, brackets and hardware that live behind the wheel.
- Holds up to salt and grit far better than wet paint on the same part.
- Chip resistant — it flexes with the part instead of shattering off the edge.
- Colour range is enormous, gloss through satin through flat, including candy and metallic effects.
- One continuous surface, so there's no seam for water to creep under and start lifting.

- Bring the bike or the bare parts. Either works. If the wheels are still on, we pull them — that's our job, not yours.
- Strip and prep. Old finish off, surface cleaned. This is the step that decides whether the coat lasts, and it's the step that gets rushed when parts are sent out.
- Coat and cure. Colour goes on dry and gets baked.
- Back together. Wheels rebalanced, tyres refitted, hardware back where it came from.
Doing paint and powder in the same building means the two can be matched to each other. If you want coated wheels that pick up a colour in the custom paint on the tank, that's one conversation here instead of three between two shops.
Winter is the right time
The bike isn't going anywhere between December and March, and stripped parts don't care what month it is. Riders who book coating alongside winter storage get the work done in the dead season and the bike back ready for spring.
