New motorcycle tyre with the label still on, on a stand at Redline

Tire Replacement

Mount, balance and replace. Bring the whole bike or just the wheels — either works.

Tyres are the only part of the bike touching the road, and they are the part riders most often stretch too far. Chicago is hard on rubber: cold mornings, hot August pavement, potholes and salt.

When to replace

  • Tread below the wear bars — the moulded markers in the grooves. Level with the tread means done.
  • Squared-off centre from highway miles. It still has tread but it turns in badly and lets go without warning.
  • Cracking in the sidewall — age kills rubber even if the tread looks fine. Check the date code.
  • Cupping or scalloped wear, which usually means something else needs looking at too.
  • Any plug or repair on a bike tyre is a get-home measure, not a fix.

What we do

Mount, balance and fit, front, rear or both. We check the wheel and bearings while they’re off, because that’s the moment to find a problem, and we’ll tell you what we see rather than quietly refitting it.

Wheels already off?

Bring them in on their own and save the labour of stripping the bike. This is also the natural moment to talk about powder coating the wheels — they’re already bare, so the only extra cost is the coating itself.

Back to repair for everything else we handle in this part of the shop.
